Brewing with Essex Street Brewery at The Temple Brew House

Temple Brew House is just a short couple minutes walking from the Thames, with lots of local tube stations to pick from including my short 9-minute walk back to Chancery Lane for the central line (there is even a handy wall poster in the pub with all the last tube times). Take a turn onto Essex Street and you will see the front doors of The Temple Brew House, inviting you down to the basement bar. Lots of wooden tables and chairs surround the bar space all sitting under the d

Magic Rock Beer Party & BBQ – Hosted by Matthew Curtis with Rich Burhouse at The Prince N2

After a week of blistering heat, the midweek July evening had taken a turn to the muggy side and you could sense a storm was brewing. The storm didn’t bother me, neither did being on the other side of London for a change as I was on my way to my first visit to The Prince for a Magic Rock Beer Party & BBQ, hosted by Matthew Curtis with special guest Rich Burhouse, founder of Magic Rock Brewing. I walked into The Prince N22 and was instantly greeted with the rare sight of a ful

East London Brewing Co – Cowcatcher 4.8%

East London Brewing Co is a husband and wife brewing team. Stu and Claire have been brewing up beers in Leyton East London since February 2011 when they decided to make the plunge of becoming brewers and quitting their day jobs. Stu and Claire wanted to make high quality traditional beers and now brew a range of seven core beers including, Jamboree, Night Watchman, Orchid, Cowcatcher and more. ELB are one of the first newer breweries I noticed that started to get their beers

Elephant School x Solvay Society x Half Pint Gent – The Inverted Abbey Series

It’s the hottest day of the year, it is a good 33 degrees outside in the Brentwood country side, Ethan Kannor, Roman Hochuli and I are standing directly beneath a strip light cutting open bags of malt in Brentwood Brewing Co. My face is melting away in the heat! Despite this sweaty embarrassment, I am excited to be involved in the first day of a new Essex collaboration project. Belgian beer is what changed things for me when it came to liking beer and loving beer. My first tr

Sorachi Screwface – Brewing with Braumaster Ben

I wake up to the sound of horrendous rain pissing it down outside on a gloomy post bank holiday Tuesday morning. The rain continues and my train is delayed but despite this I am still in good spirits, as today I was brewing my first big collaboration beer. I first met the guys from 40FT Brewery several months back (which you can read here) and since then I have got to know them well. It’s been great to see them grow and find their beers in more venues. Brewer Ben Ott has a gr

Weird Beard Brewing Co May Open Day

Straight off the bat I have to say Weird Beard is one of my favourites! Ever since I first see their beers a few years back at the start of this huge change in British beer scene I have loved their beers and their branding. Yet I had never made it to their brewery. To be honest West London is all fairly unknown to me, as most my time in London is spent either at work or in East London. So when I saw that they were opening the doors to their brewery once a month I knew I had t

#BeerBuddies – Trevor Jeffery, Billericay Brewing

#BeerBuddies is a new part of my blog that I am putting together containing interviews with people that I have met either online or in person via sharing the same passion about beer. My first #BeerBuddies is with Trevor Jeffery of Billericay Brewing, when I first heard there was a brewery and bottle shop in Billericay I was over the moon that finally somewhere close and accessible to me would be making and selling decent beer. I first tried Mayflower Gold in The Alehouse in C

When Beavertown came to Billericay Town

This Friday night just gone me and around 20 lucky beer drinkers were treated down to The Essex Beer Shop in Billericay for an interesting and up close lesson on the world of Beavertown Brewery. Beavertown brew their beers in Hackney East London which once upon a time in Victorian London was called the De Beauvoir area, which was then referred to by the old Cockneys as Beavertown! The original set up was in the kitchen of their pub Dukes Brew and Que but now has moved to fish

    Billericay Brewing – Mayflower Gold

It would be rude not to have the Mayflower Gold first out of my buys from the newly open Essex Beer Shop. Most of my teenage to adult life has been spent visiting Billericay for its pubs as it is one stop on the train for me and where I live doesn’t have much to offer in the way of drinking places at all, so when I first read about Billericay Brewing I was truly excited at the the thought of a beer from the place I grew up drinking. Mayflower Gold is an American Pale Ale styl
